Book Reviews - Wolves of the Beyond“My name is Faolan. I am a wolf. But not just any wolf, I am the Lone Wolf. Raised by an unexpected creature for a mother, and taught everything but how to be a wolf. I was born with a twisted paw—and on that paw a mysterious swirling symbol. I don’t know what it means—yet. But I am going to find out….”

The cover reflects the contents, but not enough. The symbol on Faolan’s paw is a crucial element to the story, and I think that same symbol should be on the moon on the front cover. Other than that, the cover was the thing that made me pick up the book—because I am a wolf lover.

The most compelling part of this particular book, beside the fact that it’s centered on wolves, is that the author incorporated characters and parts from her other series, Guardian’s of Ga’Hoole, which featured owls. Also, the author made a very important character in this book an entirely different creature from a wolf.

Other important parts of the book were the language of the wolves—an entire dictionary of words used by wolves only—and the way the author divided the clans of wolves by rank. Both of those things made the book very interesting. The only thing that disappointed me was that the entire middle of the book was boring. Yes, there were a lot of important things that happened in the middle of the story, but it was all still quite boring.—Jordan H., age 14
