/Book Review - For Women and Finding The Right Man - For Women Only.“The urge to find a mate is deeply rooted into human biology. But there’s more to the selection process than simple lust or ticking biological reproduction clocks. The finding of just the right partner to go through life with is often more than just a one time task, but can be a necessity imposed by divorce or the death of a spouse.

There are a wealth of ‘how to’ and ‘what to do’ books available to women seeking dating advice. What makes “Finding The Right Man For You: Dating Advice for Women” stand apart from the crowd is that its author, Lawrence J. Danks, offers a male perspective.

As he gives a wealth of insightful, practical, and useful advice on dating. Especially when the dating process is complicated by children, work, and health issues. Of special note is Danks’ counsel on how to detect and avoid men who misrepresent themselves.

Book Review - A Short Guide to a Happy Marriage by Sharon Gilchrest O'Neall

March 26, 2010 |11:34 | Relationships  By : Team X

Book Review - A Short Guide to a Happy Marriage by Sharon Gilchrest O'NeallIf you ask anyone married more than 10 years, they will tell you that it’s not easy. Couples start to take advantage of each other, focus more of their attention on their children and forget to make time for each other.

A Short Guide to a Happy Marriage by Sharon Gilchrest O’Neall is a very short book, only 61 pages, that helps married couples get through their hard times and learn to appreciate each other.

The book is more like a poem than a self-help book. It reads like poetry, but provides some helpful tips on keeping your marriage energized.

At least half of the pages in the book are black and white photos that are visually appealing. Photos range from a couple kissing on the beach during the sunset to two pieces of a heart shaped chocolate.

Book review - 'The Surrendered' by Chang-rae Lee

March 11, 2010 |13:48 | History | Relationships  By : Team X

Book review The Surrendered by Chang-rae LeeChang-rae Lee's three previous novels were all commandeered by forceful narrators, each with a distinct voice and each struggling to find his moorings in a swiftly changing cultural landscape.

First was bereaved young Henry Park in "Native Speaker," followed by courtly old Doc Hata in "A Gesture Life" and midlife-tragicomic Jerry Battle in "Aloft."

In creating these affecting first-person voices, Lee proved to be as ardent a student of the American literary canon as he is a keen contributor to it, traversing the intersection between Cheeveresque suburban unease and contemporary immigration literature with uncommon fluency.

Lee's latest novel, which has been in the works for more than five years, veers into different territory. Much bleaker than his earlier books, it is, like Jayne Anne Phillips's recent "Lark and Termite.

Book reviews - The course of true love never did run smoothly

February 15, 2010 |09:59 | Relationships  By : Team X

Book reviews - The course of true love never did run smoothlyYou don’t need to read the prequels to this installment of Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation series of espionage-laden historical romances for the story to make sense.

Newcomers and loyal fans alike will love brash, flirtatious Penelope’s exotic adventure in Hyderabad, India, told in Lauren Willig’s signature mix of historical richness and whimsical humor.

In an unusual setup for a period romance, Penelope starts her adventure as a married woman. Her feckless, gambler husband, Freddy, is endearing but clearly not a love match. It takes dashing Capt. Reid to heat things up to a heady mix of banter and taboo chemistry.

Working with the social constraints of class and conventions about marriage, Willig does smart, historically sound plotting that develops both Penelope and Capt. Reid into nuanced, honest characters, facing questions about honor.
